YAUGHTS OF SEABOURN

The entrance to the Costa neoRomantica is normally through the Atrio Centrale, that was refurbished during the rebuilding of the ship in early 2012. It is a totally different atmosphere here then in the atriums I have seen aboard other Costa ships, intimite and small, covering only two decks. Of course, the tour office and the information desk are situated here, but there are no shops, bars or galleries. The Atrio is shown just below.

The main lounge aboard the ship is the Cabaret Vienna, that is situated on Vienna deck (9). The lounge was built at the spotwhere the casino was housed before the rebuilding. The casino was replaced to a much smaller space one deck below, at Verona deck. The Cabaret Vienna lounge is not a big showlounge, it has comfortable seatings in a very contemporary style surrounding a small stage and dancefloor. This way, the performers have more interaction with the audience and vice versa of course. No big shows are played here, just smaller acts and singers. This is the true style of Costa neoRomantica, an intimate atmosphere for people who don't need big casino's or big shows and are looking for a quiet holiday. The Cabaret Vienna lounge not only replaced the large casino, it also replaced the Teatro L'Opera, that was situated on Verona and Vienna decks before the rebuilding and did not return in the rebuilt ship. Costa neoRomantica simply doesn't have a large theater anymore. The Cabaret Vienna is shown below, followed by a picture of the new Casino Excelsior.

The Casino Excelsior now is quite a small space, offering slot machines and some tables, all set in a very relaxing and classy style, using cream and brown colouring. So there is no neon and it is a very spacious environment. The Casino is now placed where originally the Sala Carte was housed, a space where cardcames could be played.

One of the largest spaces aboard the ship is the Piazza Italia Grand Bar. This has always been aboard the ship, also before the rebuilding. But it is extended and refurbished extensively, almost unrecognizable from its former form. The colouring here is a little less quiet, with changing colours moving through the space above the bar. But it still looks like a very relaxing space with its many light ornaments hanging down from the domed ceiling in the center.

Above, two pictures are shown from the Salone Disco Tango, but do not expect this is a disco though. It is the thirth large lounge aboard the ship, situated aft at Vienna deck. Large panoramic windows offer great seaviews over the stern. It now has more seats and less dancing space to offer in comparissement to what this room was before. Large murals and an almost circular bar offer a great and roomy space that looks both modern and stylish.

The main restaurant aboard is called Ristorante Boticelli, situated on Verona deck. Besides this restaurant, there is the Ristorante Giardino, with some separated seating options and decorated in a garden-like setting and the luxury restaurant Club neoRomantica Restauran, that was newly added to the ship within the newly rebuilt midsection. This last restaurant was built into the former pizzeria. Below, first the Ristorante Giardino is shown, followed by this new dining-option.

The  new midsection of the ship was extensively rebuilt. At Verona deck (8), the Piazza Italia Grand Bar was rebuilt sinificantly and extended at both sides. One deck higher, the shopping area was given a totally different look, when the Via Condotti, the shopping street was extended and runs between the newly added Club neoRomatica Restaurant and the new large shop. The restaurant shown next to this tekst is offering the style that is also found aboard all other ships of the line. This Club restaurant concept is offering high quality is luxury surroundings as an alternative to the main restaurant.

The Via Condotti shopping street, named after the famous street in Milan, is shown on the picture below. Also here is the large model of the ship, shown on the page about the ship itself.

One of the nicest spaces aboard the ship is definitely the Cigar Lounge, a small lounge situated on Vienna deck, next to the shop. The lounge offers a fireplace, some comfortable seating and a few photographs of former classic liners of Costa. The space also serves as a small library and is shown on the two pictures below.

On the opposite site, there is a Caffetaria, in true 1960s style, although it still looks like a modern place. Here also is a large piano, so there is some music around too. It is shown below.

You can see the ship offers some very relaxing lounges and placed to dine, but of course you can also work your muscles oin the gymnasium, that is located where the thearter used to be. The rest of the theater is rebuilt into a very charming Samsara Spa, spread out over two decks at the most forward part of the ship at Verona and Vienna decks. The gymnasium is not too big but because it is two decks high is looks very spacious and offers great seaviews over the bow!

Of course, the shuip also offers several swimming pools. Again, not anything like the large lidodecks found on the other ships of the line, but there are two nicely proportioned lidodecks, called the Lido Montecarlo, shown first and the Lido Saint Tropez, shown second. The poos are not too big and there are no waterslides or waterparks. Great for people who just like to relax and take a dip sometimes.

As you can see as we are exploring the ship in these pictures, Costa neoRomantica is not a ship that is very attractive to the younger passengers. When you are looking for a holiday for you and your younger children, you will be dissapointed because the ship is really meant for another kind of passenger. The ship does offer a Squok Club, so when you do bring your children they will be cared for of course. But there is not much offered for them and the whole ship is truly meant for people who dont want to beware of running children throughout the ship. The ship is sailing her first seasons mostly in northern Europe in summer, trying to attract people that normally 'won't do a Costa cruise.' Music, theater, disco, casino is all limited to none. To me, Costa offers a great value for money on this newly rebuilt ship, something normally found on the more luxury ships. When you just want to relax this may be your ship. I think the ship has been rebuilt splendidly and looks classic yet modern, exactly what you'd expect from her.

Of course something you'd also expect from a ship like this is a well-stuffed wine-bar. The Enoteca Verona is just that, but there is not much personal service and you can choose your wines from refrigirated walls. The choice is immense, though. Another dining option on the ship is the new black and whitePizzeria Capri, shown below. A nice touch to this pizzeria are the living green walls to the sides, feauturing plants and mosses.
