YAUGHTS OF SEABOURN

The central eight-deck high atrium aboard Costa Luminosa is called Atrio Supernova and several bars and lounge areas are situated near or within this atrium. Also, three glass elevators line up with the atrium between the Giada deck (10) and Zaffiro deck (2). The central piece of the Atrio Supernova is a giant sculpture by Fernando Botero called 'Donna Sdraiata 2004', representing a large woman lying at a towel. This statue represents the style of the Medellín-born Colombian painter and sculpturer, whose worldfamous works are mostly inspired by fat people. In 2004, he came widely into the news when he made a series of paintings about the torture of prisoners in the Abu Ghraib-prison in Iraq. His statues are placed all over the world, and seen in worldfamous exhibitions.

Above is shown the lovely Donna, the centerpiece of the Atrio. Below you see the Atrio at the Zaffiro deck, where the Bar Supernova is situated. The glass elevators are also shown on this picture, as well as the large loungechairs where the Luminosa's passengers can relax in front of Donna.

The outside decks of Costa Luminosa look quite spacious. The Lido Delphinus, shown below, is situated on the Aquamarina deck (9) and overlooks the ships stern. This lido has lots of loungechairs, one outside pool and two whirlpools, as well as the Delphinus Lido Bar, shown on the second picture below. The four yellow parasols make it easily recognizable.

The pool at the Lido Delphinus is not the biggest pool onboard, that title goes to the Lido Dorado, shown below. This pool is also flanked by two large whirlpools, although the pool itself doesn't look that big to me, especially for a ship the size of Costa Luminosa. The decks surrounding the pool are very spacious and a retractable roof above can provide swimdays on board also when the weather is miserable, like today... A large screen is also fitted adjust to the pool, so you can enjoy some telly while swimming too. The Lido Dorado is the centre of all outside life onboard.

Of course, it is possible to do more than swimming on the outside decks, seen below is the putting green area where midgetgolf can be played. Also, there is the possibility to use the jogging track or the skate-ring, play shuffleboard or just lounge your way through the day, while enjoying the sun.

Also, for the youngest passengers is a lot of fun-spots available. The squok-club is there for children from 6 months till 3 years old, they even have their own outside Lido at the Turchese deck (11) seen below. It has their own swimming pool as well as slides and lots of fun-toys to play with. Between 3 and 6 years there is the Mini-Club followed by of course the Maxi Club for 7 to 11 year olds. For 12 to 14 years olds, Costa has the Teen Junior Club and between 15 and 17 year old they can enjoy the Teen Club. Special rooms for them are provided at the Giada deck (10). Costa is really trying to attract families with younger children, almost 70% of their passengers are families.

Also on the Giada deck is the spacious fitness-area called Centro Benessere Samsara, overlooking the bow of the ship on one of the highest decks. It provides the passenger with lots of ways to loose the extra pounds that will shurely come on while eating at the fine restaurants or bars on board. These pounds can also be lost at the Samsara Spa, one of the largest Spa's afloat.

These weight-adding restaurants look splendid, with as central piece the big main restaurant called Ristorante Taurus, a two deck high classical looking restaurant. It serves two seatings and you will get six-course dinners a-la-carte. The centerpiece of this restaurant is a piano, overhanging the lower level in the center of the ristorante. The ceiling is covered with lots of light ornaments and the decor looks really marvellous.

Besides the main restaurant, there are several other options for dining, including the exclusive Club Luminosa restaurant located on the Giada deck on top of the Atrio Supernova looking down 8 decks. This restaurant is lightened by several great chandeliers emerging from the ceiling as great piramides of light (first picture below). The smaller restaurants give a more intimite choice in dining, when you think the big restaurant and massive crowd is a little too much for you. Also, there is the Samsara restaurant at the Zaffiro deck (2) that caters especially for special diets,  pictured underneath the Club Luminosa restaurant. For these two restaurants, reservations are to be made.

For light midday snacks or easy dining, there is the Ristorante Buffet Andromeda, a buffet-restaurant also featuring a pizzeria that cannot, of course, be skipped by a ship flying the Italian flag. This restaurant is huge and almost completely takes up the Aquamarina deck (9) between the Lido Delphinus and the Lido Dorado.

Below, you see a part of the outside cabin 1215 on the Corallo deck (2), the lowest passengerdeck on board Costa Luminosa. Its a typical cabin for the ship, although cabins on this deck do not have a balcony. Cabins like this are not really big but they are certainly big enough to provide comfort for the time you are inside your cabin. Most time will be spent outside, at ports of call or the numerous places and events on board.

Next to the restaurants, of course the bars are very important places to go to and to meet fellow passengers. Shown below are Bar & lounge Libra at Zaffiro deck (2), the cozy pianobar Antares with its small dancefloor and stage at Ambra deck (3) and Caffettaria Sirius also at Ambra deck, located between the shopping arcade and the theater.

The ships discoteque named Discoteca Altair is located both on Zaffiro and Ambra decks (2&3) and has a small dancefloor, lots of seats and a great videowall and, of course, a bar. It's a really cosy and colourfull room, small but intimate especially for the late hours on board.

On the Giada deck, Costa has its exclusive formula-one racing simulator, the Scuderia Costa. In this car, you can drive your own grand-prix races across formula-one tracks around the world. This car is accompanied by its own bar, the evenly named Bar Scuderia Costa, in true race-style decoration. Through large floor to ceiling windows, the simulation-car can be seen working hard keeping itself on the tracks.

For more quiet moments, the small but charming chapel aboard the ship is located just next to the Atrio Supernova Bar at Ambra deck (3). It is possible to wed here also, since the ships captain is allowed to close weddings.

Towards the bow, spread across Corallo, Zaffiro and Ambra decks, the Teatro Phoenix offers you modern shows in a hightech atmosphere. On every cruise, there will be played several shows so you can expect something different each night. The shows are varied, from singers and dancers to acrobtics and comedy, there will be something on for everybody to love. The lighting possibilities are superb, light ornaments on the walls provide a very spectacular performance. The three deck high theater will give an enormous feeling of space, also because of the light colours that are used for the room.

Costa Luminosa is a true modern cruiseliner, taking care of all modern needs in a very charming and colourfull setting. Her atmosphere is very informal, although in the Ristorante Taurus you have to be dressed properly, no shorts or shirts without sleeves but that seems to be quite normal as you will never dine in a luxurious shoreside restaurant not properly dressed also. Furthermore, its a Mediterranean styled ship with all the charm from Italy felt in every bar or on her decks. Costa Cruises has over 60 years of experience in cruising and you can see that in every aspect. They are a really family-friendly company taking care of passengers of every age. To me, Costa is a company that provides a product that really still is close to the country of origin, for this part Italy, and that gives them a unique European style.
